Okay it WAS a small thing.
For others who may have the same problem, here's what it was:
if ($ship_go = "go") {
instead of
if ($ship_go eq "go") {

I opened the file in Dreamweaver at first. Maybe that contributed to the problem. Working in Notepad now...
