Post How do I edit text on the start page?
I modified the file located at html/index.html. All I did was delete a word in the text of the main body to see if it would reflect the change. The change was reflected in html/index.html, but when I tried to run Agora.cgi, it sent me to html/error.html.

So I assume I didn't edit the page correctly. I didn't know how to fix it, so I deleted Agora and reinstalled. Now that I'm back where I started, could somebody please tell me the best way to edit the main page? Smile

Looks like my host's HTML editor destroyed the page. I edited the text manually and it works fine. Is that the best way to change index.html, then? And does anybody have an idea of how the editor could ruin it?

You'll need to use an editor that doesn't do automatic tag replacements or convert codes. Dreamweaver and some other WYSIWYG type editors will do that. You can turn off the settings that allow the overwrite to occur within those programs. There are some great free editors that you can use that won't do any automatic replacements....HTML-Kit is one that comes to mind. Even Notepad works well. You can find some good recommendations in the following thread:

right. cpanel editors and other editors online are not good for any file that contains perl (agorascript and cgi). you need to download all editable files in ascii and upload in ascii too with your handy dandy acme ftp editor. edit as described by SUPERMOM Laughing
