I'm using this linkpoint payment gateway.

Do I have to have SSL or will it work anyway, since the payment info is
collected by linkpoint with their SSL?

The checkout link goes to an https:
If I don't really need SSL could that be changed so it liks to
an http: ?

You must use the URL as Linkpoint specifies, but you don't need an SSL URL for the store.

http: instead of https:

Do you know if thats only in one script or is there more than one place to change it?

You shouldn't have to change anything.
Just set up the URLs in the manager...
