Post I believe the first phase is done, but I'm gun shy!
The first time I tried to set up the cart, I did so just for testing, knowing I was going to add a few items, mess with them, and then wipe the directory and upload for real.

Well, whilst testing, I did the "haccess" protect. From that point forward, it was a I like to run around all day waving my hands inthe air and screaming: I am Perl Harbor today shoot as to what would happen when I tried to login. Sometimes I'd get pop-ups over and over, other times it would show me the regular login, followed by a popup where I had to re-enter. I think I even had to revert back to the default username and password to get in.

The company is ready to go live. My last two steps are changing the username and password and htaccess-protecting the prtoected directory. Is there any real justification for my trepidation, or should I just bite the bullet and do it?

If it blows up, I know you'll help me, but I don't want it to blow up!

Steve,
Make sure that when you are accessing the manager that you are following the '2 dot rule'.
That is you need 2 dots in the domain area.
IE: http://www.mydomain.com/store/agora.cgi
see, there are 2 dots above.

Also, make sure cookies are allowed on your browser.

HTH!

Bonnie,

You haven't steered me wrong yet, so I'm going to trust you on this one.

If it breaks, I'm coming crying to you! Smile

Yeah. It hates me.

I clicked "htaccess the /protected directory..." and put in my new shopping cart username and password. I logged out and tried to log back in. Three pop-ups later, the server stuck its tongue out at me and told me to go push a rope... not really, but it didn't let me in.

I deleted the htaccess file. I have cookies enabled. Ok, I'm humble now. How do I do it?

when you're using htaccess you have to have everything correct or it will continue to present the login popup. when setting up htaccess be sure to type in the user/pass. don't copy and paste. this aviods things like leading and trailing spaces. it is also case sensitive.

make sure your store url in the manager is
http://www.domain.com/path_to_agora.cgi
you absolutley need the www in the url.

it may possibly be a server issue. if you have cpanel then delete the htaccess file you created with the manager. then password protect the store/protected folder with the cpanel password protect files and folders feature.
