Post Sorting items alphabetically instead of by item #
How do I get all of the items in one category, (when only that category is displayed by the "=category" term, to appear ALPHABETICALLY instead of by item number?

I run into this problem as I would like ALL of my items to show up alphabetically. Then when I add more items to my database as I get them in, because of item number even though it may begin with an "A" it will show up after the "Z"'s because of item number.

Please help!

Thanks

for advanced database manipuation like this:

export to pipe delemeted with database manager

download data file from server (in data directory of your store)

open with a spread sheet
sort but columns alpha onthe column you with to sort by

save as pipe delimited again

upload to data directory of store

import back into store using the databse manager

double check.

Also make sure you have a back up copy of the data.file before importing the new data back into your store.

What's THAT supposed to mean?

I've jumped on this thread because I'm trying to do the same thing.

I've tried this suggested database manipulation thing, but with little success. First, I've tried it with a csv file, because if I exported a PIPE format, excel wouldn't split it into columns - it just printed the whole record in one long row with the bar splitting the fields.

When I tried exporting a csv file, sorting it, and importing it, the data still showed up sorted by the product ID.

Am I doing something wrong?

Just a little typo there. We all make them at times when we are in a hurry. What he meant was do an alpha (alphabetical) sort on the file.
