US tax law does not permit you to collect sales tax for any other state that you are not registered in as a reseller and only to purchases shipped to that state.

Hi Bonnie

This is kind of an odd situation

These products are beach chair rentals and
these products are all being delivered to NJ
and my client is licensed in NJ
and they want to charge tax on the cart to everyone
because the rentals are being delivered in NJ

It is their understanding that if it is delivered to NJ
it is taxable no matter where the purchasers billing address is located

You are absolutely right...
So the shipping address needs to already be set up and the sales tax set for NJ...
That will make sure that the NJ tax is applied to every order.
BTW, I never said anything about the billing address...

Thanks for your help

I am using yourpay connect

Because of the unusual situation-
shipping/delivery details need to be very detailed
so I have removed shipping details from the cart
and only billing information and a choice for local delivery is allowed

After they complete the order-they are redirected to a form to fill out delivery details

The sales tax is set for NJ
and the cart is using the billing address to calculate the tax

The Payment Gateway files would need to be edited to allow for a separate shipping address.
