Screen width issues,

Post Screen width issues,
I am using a wide screen monitor while building my store, the probelm is it's viewing the site from a smaller screen. I've changed (one at a time) all width settings from the manager screen, but it has no effect on what others see while viewing from a smaller screen.

Scrolling side to side to see the site is unexceptable. Can you advise how I can set the screen size (width) so it fits anyone's screen?

Thank you in advance

Gary

You need to use width percentages in table definitions.
The CSS files also have a lot of the width parameters,
but the way stuff gets interpreted varies from browser to browser.
IE being the most problematic.

I seem to remember some discussion on this width issue in the Gold forum...
but they were looking to set a fixed width.
I'm not sure there is a definitive answer for this...

Post Thanks Scott
I tried changing the width settings threwout the CSS files with no results. I'm thinking of removing the Featured product that lists on the right of the screen, that MAY take care of the width issue. I still have a lot more playing to do before we go live so unless you have any other advice I'll keep playing.

Thanks again Scott for your help with my MANY problems..Ha

Gary,
Another thing that can mess with the width of a page are the images on the page.
The width will stretch to accommodate the images on the page.

Post I thought about that Scott
I removed ALL images on the front page of the site, then replaced them with company banners instead which I downsized. I couldn't tell it made any difference. This link is where I sit now....

Those are not the images causing the problems... It's usually the product images.
When they are 2 across, the product image should be no more than 150px.

Another thing I'm seeing is that you have the width of a <td> element as: width="1002"
Should be a percentage...

Post Scott,
I've thought about the product images being to big so will reduce some of them to see how that works with the screen view.

I'll also check the <td> settings as well.

Thanks again for your help.

Post I was afraid to make,
the product images too small because I haven't visited the option of thumbnailing yet. I, as I am sure others would like to have the images enlarge with a click of a button. Just ain't got there yet. I am sure I'll have questions on that? ha

OK I've been backwards and forwards threw the two CSS files and I can't seem to find a reference to the width setting of 1002 which I would have known had to be in %. Can you point me at the correct file I need to fix?

Thanks

The width issue is no where in the css files, it is in your header files...

Post Thanks Scott,
I found the reference to the width at 1002, changed it to 100% and uploaded it to the server. Next I'll work on the width issues in either the header file or footer.

I'll also reference the link you gave me, I really do like to figure this stuff out myself before I ask for help, but it's good to know your here to help.
