Post New Product / Multiple Categories
Having a hard time finding any results for this using Search function here in the forum. When I type in "category" I get No Results, when I type in "multiple" I get No Results, plus frequent Database Errors. Not complaining, just saying I tried to find this on my own.

What is the best way to have a product show up both in its own category and as a New Product. Say, a bracelet which is a new product, which I want to show up in a product list for Bracelets and also for New Products.

I don't think I need detailed instructions; if you just point me in the right direction I think I'll be able to figure it out.

Thank you!

sorry about the server errors, it's in need of an upgrade.

there is no database related way to span multiple "root" or main categories per se. Besides creating a category called "New Products" and saving a copy of the product in that category (just edit the current one, change the category name and change the product ID and save to make a second one), there are ways to use searches to do this.

using userfields you can mark items as new products in some meaningful way (must be a positive value so examples of use would be: using the number "1" to indicate it or the word "yes"). You would select the userfield you wish to use and enter that predetermined value in each item in the product database in that userfield that would be considered a new product.

next you would build special link and place in your design. For simplicity sake, if you selected userfield 4 to place indicators in and the value was "yes", then you would have a link to show those new products like so:

that would pull up all the new products and display the number pe page that you set in the settings (can be overridden as well via the URL but I'll skip that for now).

If you wanted to have a special layout for those new products, you would edit a product page layout to your needs. Then you would save it, for this example we could save it as (in the html/html-templates sub-dir of your store). Then we'd tack this onto your link URL to activate the layout:

notice the &ppinc= value is the name of the file after productPage- and drops the .inc file extension

Hope that helps
