Post Editing to a new product hoses the product
Hi all. 1st post.

When I edit a product, then give it a new name, submit, reload the page, and click on the new product; I recv errors that the product can't be found etc. Not only does it happen for that product, but also for any product in that sub category.
Say:
We have XYZ-1(1 meaning style 1.)
We now have XYZ-2(style 2)
If I go in and edit XYZ-1 to have the new price+description of style 2, give it the XYZ-2 product ID and leave everything else the same, no longer can product XYZ be purchased.

Any thoughts?

Without seeing what is happening, I can't really tell what is happening.
Where are you putting the XYZ-2? Is that the productID or just the product name that changes?
If it's the productID,when it is edited from XYZ-1 to XYZ-2, XYZ-1 is effectively deleted leaving just XYZ-2.

HTH!

yes, the product ID is being modified.
it was my understanding that when the product id is modified, when you save it, it saves as a new record. is that not correct?

if you want to see what's happening, contact me on AIM and i'll switch DB's for a few minutes. As much as I need XYZ-2, I can't have that whole portion of the store not functioning. Confused

What I've been doing, is exporting the DB to a CSV. Copying all of the rows of XYZ-1, Pasting to new rows, then modifying what I need, then uploading and applying. Doing so, I would think that everything other than the product id and description stay the same as they should, but they aren't.

Do you think using DBWhizz would be easier/faster?
