Post getting there
Well it's not going to look too wonderful but at least I got rid of the demo store banner and items. I plan to keep my pages that I've been working on in Frontpage and just link each item to the item in the shopping cart. It's more of a pain but I don't want to lose my meta tags and the search engine compatibitiy that I have now...

don't forget to set the main agoracart settings to:
don't confirm with database
dont view cart after adding to the cart
two minor settings that can cause grief if forgotten.

Post similar issue
I'm having a similar issue, I can get rid of the demo store page but all of my item pages have the stupid agora "you have set up your store correctly" banner at the top, is there a way to get rid of that?

If you are using a version prior to 4.0K-4b you should upgrade. Edit your header and footer files in the /html/html-templates directory and the index.html in the \html directory. An excellent tutorial on editing the store pages is
http://www.agorasupport.com/custom-headfoot.htm

If you are using version 4.0 you can look here for the file locations. In 4.0 the main page is frontpage.html instead of index.html

The latest version is avaialable for download on agoracart.com. You can find instructions on how to do installs and upgrades in this forum and in the files area of the agora2 forum on Yahoo.

To download 4.0K-4
http://www.agoracart.com/download.htm

Agora2
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/agora2/

If you don't feel you want to do it yourself, you can get a Pro file install at agoracart.com for about $10.

I am having the opposite problem, I got rid of the banner at the top, but I can't seem to get rid of the demo store page. I've edited frontpage.html in the html/main folder but that didn't work

Before you too involved in editing it's advisable that you upgrade to version 4.0K-4b. You are using 4.0, which is very old and buggy. Upgrading will save you headaches later. If you don't feel comfortable doing the upgrade yourself Mister Ed at agoracart.com will do it for under $10.

So how do you get rid of the demo store page?

By editing the files.
For the home page of the store, you need to edit the index.html file in the html directory.

So here is what you do - in simple english!

You need to edit the index.html file which is generated by Agora so using an ftp program, download the index.html file from the html directory where your site is hosted. (this is the critical part which took me several hours to work out - yes, I do feel silly now....with the benefit of hindsight!)

Open the index.html file in an editor (I find didapro to be excellent) and edit this file. If you want, you can edit the whole page and it will be static. But it is better to put %%StoreHeader%% at the top after the body tag and %%StoreFooter%% at the bottom before the /body tag. Then it will pick up the header and footer include files.

If you don't know html very well, you will find it a bit tricky to edit the middle part because it is divided into cells in a table - but what a perfect opportunity to learn! Once you have edited the file to your satisfaction, upload it with your ftp program to replace the original file. Voila!

Hope this helps...

to make it easier you can paste in the header and footer then remove and replace the tokens before uploading. helps to keep track of the tables which can come back to bite ya if you get em messed up.

I use Macromedia Dreamweaver which is a little tricky to learn at first, but which makes everything nice and easy. With it, I can edit all the HTML files directly, even the options files and such. One thing I did on my store (http://www.shantishop.com) is to ignore the index.html file completely. I put all my static pages outside the store, and tried to set it up so that no one would ever see the agora index.html. But if they type in an address directly, or access their shopping cart from a month-old bookmark, they get there anyway. So I made the index.html file an error page that asks them to click on a link to the shopping cart. It also loads the header and footer, so they get links out of the error that way.

I think it works pretty well that way.

I'm having the same trouble, sort of...any changes I make to the index. html or any other htm file shows up as "an error has occured"

If I leave the html alone in the demo page text, everything works great..

but if I even change one word for example, I tried to change the about_us.htm text from "your comapny information here" to anny text, it comes back as an error if I click on the "about us" link at the bottom of the screen..

I am not able to manually edit anything.. even with an FTP editor..

although the footer/header manager editor is working nicely, these are the only edits that can be made..

You are probably not uploading the file in ASCII mode. Uploading the file in the incorrect mode will cause this to happen.
Make sure that your FTP program is set to upload in ASCII, all files except the graphics.

If using either Dreamweaver or Frontpage for editing cart you might want to check the following tutorial for information and configuration settings
http://www.allisonsonline.com/training/agora.cgi

Do not use online editors, such as those in Cpanel.

Post RE: Main cart page says demo store
hell-o
there are three basic problems when editing with DW.
by default it "corrects" when file is launched. it replaces special characters with the code for special characters and it corrects on closing of the file.
the most common problem is it changes "&" to & which will kill your code. perl needs the literal character. the code for the character is great for html purposes to keep perl from trying to run a combined set of characters it thinks is code.
so for perl script always use &
for html inside of perl and or html with perl script imbeded use &
another way is when there is html inside of perl then escape any special characters that are to be excluded from the code. you escape with a backslash like so
\"sombody said this\"
Bilbo Baggins \& company

oh yeah, so you have to change the options in DW to not to auto-correct when launching a file, no character subsitution and not to correct errors when closing a file. look for any other auto functions that will possibly corrupt code.

dan
