Can not edit store front main page

Post Can not edit store front main page 
I make changes to the store front main page then I go to view the changes in the browser and get an error message in the browser. This only happens with the main page. I've edited the header and footer with no problem. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong. Thanks Renee

Most likely has to do with whatever editor you are using. MS Frontpage causes problems. You need to edit using a regular HTML editor or a text editor, such as Notepad. There are several recommendations for editors in the message archives of the forums.

Didn't use FrontPage. Initially I tried editing the page in the editor on the server provided by my web host, then I copied the code and pasted it into DreamWeaver made changes and uploaded the revised file to the server - it didn't work either. I will now try editing the page in note pad. I'll let you know what happens. THANKS!

Just tried NotePad to edit file and the same problem occurred.

Don't use the Cpanel editor, and from what I've seen posted you can use Dreamweaver but have to disable it's automatic correction feature, as it changes the code.

Are you doing the FTP upload of the file in ascii mode? All cart files need to be tranferred in ascii except for images.

make sure you are uploading the page to the correct directory. if on K versions or above... goes inthe html dir and is called index.html. if in older version, goes inteh thml/main sub dir (called frontpage.html)

I suspect that you are loading it up to a place it would not normally be found in the cart system.

I'm having the same problem. I tried both of these suggestions and I still get the error! Any other ideas?? TIA
