Post Custom Shipping Question 
How can I offer UPS for all states based on weight...and offer USPS to AL and HI only with a fixed shipping rate?

Just offer UPS & USPS to all... The API's will tell them that they've selected an incorrect shipping method...
You can, also, put a note on the order form about which methods to choose from if they are from AK or HI...

please forgive me - I am a novice...

so I would keep UPS at SBW and would put in custom logic for USPS for fixed rate?

What if someone in a state other than AK or HI chooses UPS? Would it not just apply the fixed rate that I have custom coded for USPS? I don't want that...if they do not live in AK or HI then they must choose UPS...

but we are wanting a fixed shipping rate for USPS for AK and HI...the calculated shipping by weight and the fact it will be coming from Oregon is very steap...we are wanting to offer them a fixed shipping rate.

It really is best to let the API handle it...
What would be your fixed rate? Why not just allow the USPS API handle the calculation???

ok - I just talked to my client on this site... here is what they are wanting now...

Can we code USPS only for HI and AK at a fixed rate? People from any other state would just have no shipping applied to their order?

The costs for HI and AK for this company go past just shipping but can be handled with a fixed shipping rate...shipping costs for the other states is minimal and can be obtained by changing the item price.

Would this be possible? Everyone not living in HI or AK would have $0 shipping - but those living in AK or HI will have a fixed shipping price through the USPS option?

You would have to only use custom shipping logic and would NOT be able to use the API's.
Take a look at some of the other posts in this topic to get some info on setting up custom shipping logic with shipping methods.
