Post can I use installtgz.cgi with IP address install?
I did the tar to expand the tgz file on my new ISP.

I plan to use the same domain I have on my old ISP.

I would like to be able to run the installtgz.cgi and get the store set up before I
change my namerservers.

So what I want to know is, can I run the installtgz.cgi using just the IP address of the new ISP.
will it be able to set up the store, or do I have to wait until I change the nameservers.

I can access the installtgz.cgi if its in the public_html directory, but I cant access urls beyond the
public_html directory, like 999.999.999.999/store/ because it then uses the domain name and points to the store directory on my old ISP.

Also, when I did the old install using cpanel I was able to select the name of the store directory.

Using the tar install I see it defaults to the directory name "store".
Is there any way to give it a directory name I choose?

To use the store while your domain name is resolving, set up the store URLs in the manager using the IP address.

you will be assigned a temp url for your account until your domain name dns points to and resolves to your ip/account. it will look something like...
http://www.domainname.com/~myaccount
or could even be an ip address...
http://127.0.0.1/~myaccount
you would access the install file something like the above...
http://127.0.0.1/~myaccount/install.tgz
http://127.0.0.1/~myaccount/cgi-bin/install.tgz

don't forget to chmod through cpanel or ftp the files to 755.
when you set up your manager use the temp url...
http://127.0.0.1/~myaccount/path_to_store_folder/agora.cgi
then when your domain name resolves change the store urls accordingly.

I used the telnet install using
tar -xzvpf agoracgi.tgz 2>&1

It seems to have set the permissions. The scripts are running.

It says on the first log in page
"Note: you must have atleast two periods (.) in the URL you are using to access this manager area. For example, if you are using: www.yourname.com/store/protected/manager.cgi, then you are okay. If using something like: yourname.com/store/protected/manager.cgi (notice no preceeding www.), you will have login problems."

Will that be ok with the ip login.

It looks like I have to make the directory protected before I can log in, is that right?

Yes, because the IP has at least 2 periods in it...

when I try to run manager.cgi

it gets past the the htaccess/htpasswd using the password in the password file.
Actually the file has a few passwords.

When I get to the manager login, it doesn't accept the same passwords and user id I
used for the initial login.

Any ideas why. I thought it may have been because I am using the IP address, but as you
say it has more than 2 "."s.

Try using this user/password combo:
manager/admin

If that doesn't work, log into the server and take a look in the 'protected/misc' direcotry of the store.

HTH!
