Augh! How to install -- what to put in cgi-bin

Post Augh! How to install -- what to put in cgi-bin
I've been fighting an install of version 5 with my webhost.

I dumped the whole thing in the cgi-bin, and got the permissions and ownerships to allow the thing to work--mostly.

But the graphics and CSS stuff doesn't not work. My webhost does not allow the delivery of images and the like out of the cgi-bin.

But if I put the store5 folder in my regular html directory, the cgi stuff does not execute.

I gave up for a couple days and searched for other solutions. No great luck, so I'm back to give it another go.

How did divide up the files to work properly?

If I get a Pro membership, are there better instructions there?

And what are the advantages of 5.1 over 5.0?

Thanks.

=============
After nearly a week of delving into e-commerce, I've circled back to try AgoraCart again.

In the past, I've set up two OSC sites, and tried ZenCart site.

Unless I do it day in and day out, I forget how to use the dang things. So I looked for something better.

So I tried AgoraCart. I ran into the 'challenges' above and abandoned it after a day to try CubeCart.

Got it to install easily, but got annoyed on entering products--one by one. I wanted something that would suck in a CSV file to populate the store. There was an add-on rumored in the forum, but not available. I really don't want to add in 80+ items by hand.

So I did some more searching and found LiteCommerce. It looked promising with it's CVS import, but after playing with the demo, found some of the features I took for granted in other systems had to be bought separately.

So now I'm ready for another go at AgoraCart.

if you can run scripts outside of the cgi-bin, it is easier to set up and maintain.
If you MUST run the store in the cgi-bin, you have to move your CSS outside of the cgi-bin and set up the 1st setting in the Store Design - CSS Editor area of the manager.
Also, you need to set the setting for "Self-Serve Images" to "Yes".

HTH!
