Post Images will not show, period
onto the next problem....

http://www.quirlys.co.uk/cgi-bin/agora.cgi

images will not show at all. I have absolute http urls (left hand side of index page), i have tried serving images through picserve, i have tried setting image locations in manager to all sorts, absolute paths, relative paths.
Tried to move images around, and put in paths containing '../' to move up directories.

nothing.

this must be because the html pages etc are being served from the cgi-bin.
Has anyone any ideas on this please?

if you have the images in the cgi-bin then you have two choices. move the images to a folder outside of the cgi-bin or use picserve.
firstly you need a home page here...
http://www.quirlys.co.uk
anything even if it's a plain html file that says hell-o.
move all your non product and non store button images to public_html/images and call them directly with a relative path or full http path. header and footer and design images should be handled seperately from the store images. they are common to the entire website so locate 1 copy in a folder and call them from everywhere.

thanks for the reply dan....

i have tried everything...........i have placed an index file in my web root home dir.

i have absolute urls (agora.cgi index page, left hand side images, right-click properties to see image paths) they do not work

i have tried to serve images, but URLS look like: picserve.cgi?picserve=/myimage.jpg
i dont know where the slash comes from after equals sign.

i have set my primary agora settings many different ways......

any other suggestions? may i be doing something wrong???

if i can get these showing i am 99% done! This is turning into real pain.

Check the permissions for the images...
Make sure they are set to 644.

one of the images in your header has the following link...
http://www.quirlys.co.uk/cgi-bin/home1.jpg
this will not work. the fact that it wont work has nothing to do with agoracart nor with file permissions. this is a direct link to the image and the image is in the cgi-bin. you cannot directly link to html files nor images in the cgi-bin.
move that image to the public root/images folder then link to it in the header as follows...
<img src="http://www.quirlys.co.uk/images/home1.jpg">
do that with all images not called with store tokens or script or picserve. in otherwords move all of the design images in the header and footer to that location. that's a good start. you can customize image locations using store code later if you want to.

Since you are running your store in the cgi-bin, you MUST use the self serve images feature.
As to your wondering where the slash comes from, check what you have set up in the manager for the URL to images... is there a forward slash at the end (a trailing slash)?
This would be why... just remove the trailing slash from the URL.

all images working. I couldnt get it to work if i had TWO seperate image folders, one for stock (./html/images), and one for site images (webroot/images).

Merged the two directories into webroot, and everything seems to work fine.

havent tested adding a product yet, see where it places the files.......

thanks

then you had the manager's path to images messed up.
if you direct link to your design images in the public root/images in the header and footer and for bg images and for misc images they will work regardless of anything else. direct linking is totally independant of cart settings.
like i said if your store is in the cgi-bin you cannot direct link to images if the images are in the cgi-bin. if the images are in the cgi-bin and you want to use picserve then the images have to be in a specific folder as per your manager settings.
