Post cart setup
hi guys,
i have just installed my cart and got the offline thing to work properly. My next step is to integrate the cart into my existing site. Am I able to keep my existing site and just add some code linking to my shopping cart? I really have no idea on how to use this cart.
can any one point me in the rite direction ?

thanks
Ryan

you can do a dB store or a non-dB store. i personally feel that a non-dB store is best. providing you don't have complicated options and other thingies that are best served through the dB structure of the cart.

i would use actual images of the products. provide thumbnails with larger images for details.

if you just have size, color and even text for customized printed shirts then you can do that easily with a non_dB store.

another option would be to add products to your dB then link to the products from the existing pages. once they are in the store they can navigate from product to product within the store itself.

dan

thanks for the reply Dan,

OK i am getting a better understanding of this now. When i link my products to my store, would i use my store URL as the "action" in a <form> tag ? and in my store am i able to just have my products and not any other Agora stuff?

also can you clarify what a "non-dB store" is?

thanks so much
Ryan

it's best to use the full http path to your agora.cgi file in the action. this way cookies will be set up properly as well as referrers.
so it will look something like...
http://www.domain.com/store/agora.cgi
there can be issues with the relative path
store/agora.cgi
it also makes it easier if using sub-directories you're linking from.

generally, when you have static pages like this with "buy now" buttons there is no need for any products in the database. it all depends on need and how you want youe site to develop. you can always populate your dB later if you need to.
when you click a "buy now" button off your static page you go directly to the "view cart" page in the store to view the contents of your shoppingcart. from there you can maniplulate your stuff, check out or continue shopping.

a non-dB store is just that. there are no products added to the store's database. all descriptins, price and options and other stuff is dependant on the data you send through your "buy now" button.
regards,
dan
