Post Shipping by category
We sell comic books, and I have been using custom logic to figure the shipping based on the # of comics ordered. Like this:
Quote:
@sc_shipping_logic = ( "North_America||1||2.00",
"North_America||1||2.00",
"North_America||2-3||3.00",
"North_America||4-6||4.00",

etc. etc. etc....you get the idea.

Now, I am adding a new category and selling a novel. I want to charge a flat $3.00 shipping per novel ordered.

So, the question is this:

How can I charge shipping for one category based on the logic above, and charge a flat shipping for a different category?

thanks,

Neil,
You could set up a hidden option file for the novel...

It would look something like this:
Code:

<INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME ="option|001|%%prodID%%" VALUE="||3.00">

BUT, this would still add an extra amount to the final quantity used to calculate the shipping.

I think someone else was trying to something similar in the Pro Forum and I don't think we were able to come up anything that really worked...

Why not just do it based on weight? I think it would be soooo much easier...

HTH!

Post maybe I will do it by weight
One thing I am having trouble finding is a breakdown of what the custom shipping logic means. I winder if you can illuminate.

Code:
"North_America||2-3||3.00",
is the example you give, from this I surmise the following:

Code:
"North_America or international | ? | weight in pounds| quantity|shipping price",

Can you illuminate any further?

The shipping logic fields are as follows:
Code:
"shipping method|total order amount|total quantity|Weight|shipping price"

Post Yup...how about this?
Of course, I found that while you were posting it, but thanks. So, I would like to charge the following for shipping:

Comics

United States and Canada:
1 Issue - $2.00
2-3 Issues = $3.00
4-6 Issues - $4.00
7-10 Issues = $5.00
11-20 Issues = $6.00

International:
1-4 Issues = $10.00
5-8 Issues = $15.00
9-15 Issues = $18.00

Books

North America Shipping = $4.95 per book
International Shipping = $15.00 per book

So, I think I can do this by weight if I assign a very light weight ( 0.01 ) to the comics, and assign a weight of say, (1.0) to the books.

Will this work like this?

Code:

"North_America|||0.01|2.00",
"North_America|||0.02-0.03|3.00",
"North_America|||0.04-0.06|4.00",
"North_America|||0.07-0.1|5.00",
"North_America|||0.11-0.2|6.00",
"International|||0.01-0.04|10.00",
"International|||0.05-0.08|15.00",
"International|||0.09-0.15|18.00",
"North_America|||1|4.95",
"North_America|||2|9.90",
"North_America|||3|14.85",
"North_America|||4|19.80",
"North_America|||5|24.75",
"North_America|||6-|29.70",
"International|||1|15.00",
"International|||2|30.00",
"International|||3|45.00",
"International|||4-|60.00");

What do you think?

thanks for the help...
