Page lag on submitting product add and edits
Hello,
When I add or edit a product, the browser seems to lag out. What I have tried is clicking submit and checking my store in another browser, and the product is added or updated, but the manager page is still trying to load or something. I have received an email from my host saying that they suspended my account because I was consuming the all the resources.
I reinstalled everything and started all over again. I have gone 3-4 months now ok, but now the issue has started again and I don't know what the cause is. I have tried uploading a clean file of manage.cgi, but still having this problem.

What is the URL to your store?
What version of AgoraCart are you running?

www.stuffupforgrab.com
I checked the update page and did all the latest updates. It seems to be ok now, but now I attempted to test the checkout, and when it comes up, it asks for name, address & other shipping info. I enter everything and click 'PLEASE CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE' , it keeps going back to the same page and not advancing to the next step.
I have paypal selected for payment and have it setup. It all has been working before I did the updates but not now.
Is there something I need to setup after this latest bunch of updates?
Thanks for your time scottcrew.

There is another edit that you need to make to the order form.
Log into the manager, on the first page it details the edit that needs to be made to the order form.

It's doing it again - edit an item and when I click submit, it seems to just hang. It is making the change when the page hangs.
Getting to be real annoying.
Seems only to be the edit function when submitting.

Not quite following what you are saying. Can you please detail, exactly what is happening, step by step?

When I edit an item, when done I click on 'submit' - the page starts to do something by looking at the progress bar at the bottom of firefox. It will sit there all day if I leave it and never say edit completed.
But if I open another browser and check the site, the edit was made, but the manager page still hasn't done anything. Still looks like it's loading.
I have to close the browser and reopen the manager to continue any work.
My host had suspended my account once already for overloading the resources.

It sounds like a problem with the host...
Who is the webhost?
AgoraCart is not the problem... If it were, we'd have hundreds of complaints.

Canaca.com
If I do a full re-install, it works fine. But I don't want to do that again.
This has happened a couple of times and I re-installed in the past and it cleared it up.
That's why I'd lean to a communication or file problem.

Well, I suppose it must be somewhere in your editing of the store.
What have you edited?

Not much - left it pretty much alone.
Only added google ads, and banners at bottom of pages.

Try not adding any of those things to the pages...
Get the default cart working, first. Leave adding those things to the very last...
Test after each edit to determine where the cart is having a problem.

SO, if something didn't happen before, but is now, then there is something that has changed on the server. I would start asking the web host about what has been added or changed on the server. Ask them about the mod_security, specifically.
Also, one thing I did notice is that your store URL is incorrect, it is breaking the "2 dot rule".
It should be:
http://www.stuffupforgrab.com/store5/agora.cgi
The www. at the beginning satisfies the "2 dot rule".

 Me too!
This just started happening to me after I started to delete the test products from the catelog that are shipped with version 5. I went through a series of deletes (each time clicking the OK button) - then after about 10 deletes the page stopped refreshing. When I would kill the page and come back in the products were deleted as expected - but I am not getting the feedback on the existing page as expected.
Then I went to add a new product by editing an existing one and submitting with a new product #, I find similar behaviour there now too. Page stalls with progress bar 'progressing' for about a minute then the page goes blank and no response. When I kill that page and log into manage.cgi on new (Explorer) session I can see that the edits (new product add) are comlete.
Any ideas? Could permissions have been mucked up while going through a rapid succession of product deletes?

 Re-installed v.5 and okay now
Not a really slick option - but my problem did go away. I am guessing some that something got mucked up when I was going through a rapid succession of deleting the original product catalogue (using the online product manager). Next time I may just edit the data.file directly if doing > 1 product deletion.

I installed it 4 times and it kept coming back.
I've givien up and moved on to another commerce program.
In the process of changing over now.
Can't afford having account suspended all the time.
My host accuses me of abusing resources on a shared server.

I would be curious to know who your web host is.
There may be some security module in the server that is causing the slow-down.
All of my stores and my clients run just fine and never experienced the lag that you are speaking of.

this has happened to me on one or two stores. it does not appear to be server settings and it does not appear to be the db as i had experimented with hand editing the dB (filtering out characters and that) which did not fix the problem.
i do not know what the cause is. i have posted to the pro forum but haven't got a response worthy to be considered and answer.
a fix will come but until then just add, edit or delete the product you're working on then wait 20 seconds or so then hit your browser's stop button. hit your browser's back button then refreah your browser. the changes to the dB are being made but you have to stop the process from timing out.
it's a hassle for sure but until a fix can be found there's not much that can be done. i haven't seen a fresh install fix the problem so no need to do a fresh install.
sorry for the problem but this type of thing is most maddening to troubleshoot.

I had re-installed several times and everything worked ok with the new install.
The problem seemed to start 2-4 weeks later.

Do you use the "ENTER" button when entering your product descriptions? Or do you use <br> when you want a line break in the description.
If you are using the "ENTER" button, you are creating "hard returns" and that may be the problem.
See, in the database, a "hard return" is considered a new line. New lines in the database are considered "new products".
All of the product's information is contained on 1 line. It may look like more than 1 line if you look at the database in a text editor, but if you have a line counter in your text editor, you would see that much of what you thought were multiple lines is actually 1 line being word wrapped.
So, if you are using your "ENTER" button when entering your descriptions... Stop it...
You will, also, need to repair the database to correct for those hard returns.

it wasn't hard returns nor special charaters nor characters where they don't belong in the dB. i hand edited the file to remove anything even remotely plausable. the dang screen just would not refresh after adding, editing or deleting a product. it is not a server issue (happened on serverb) and it is not a dB issue as all fields were present so stucture integrity was there. it has to be in the manager sequense code i think.

Thanks for that clarification... At least we have ruled out the database...
Now to get ME or his crew to find out what is happening...
Personally, none of the stores I have worked on have done this...
But, watch, now that I've said that, it'll happen...
